Background…

First, in 1946, there was Karrimor, they made outdoor stuff for outdoorsy people, then came Karrimor SF in 1995, a separate company and brand from the civvy company.

Once Karrimor started to work with and produce stuff for law enforcement agencies and the military particularly bergans for the SF they branched off forming the brand KarrimorSF.

I’ll reiterate that KarrimorSF is not the same company as the Karrimor brand found in the likes of Sports Direct.

In the short time I’ve had these, I’ve only been out on the hills for an overnight, so they’ve not had a real work out yet. Once I’ve had a chance to do so I’ll add to this review.

Mild OCD was the reasoning behind my purchase, as if I really need a reason, I have all my stuff delivered to my works address…

The issue jet packs have two main problems in my eyes:

1. They’re issue and therefore made by the cheapest bidder.

2. They are one huge space in which to cram stuff into, meaning you must rake everything out to find what you’re after.

Description…

Both pockets I have are the same, two triple magazine pouches above a rather spacious utility or ‘Omni’ pouch as KarrimorSF call it.

There is also a version out there with two Omni pouches.

Since it’s not going on your webbing you’re not going to annoy people who thrive on the “ammo pouches are for ammo” thing.

To give you a rough idea of volume though; a single pouch will hold;

  • As expected 3 x 30 round 5.56mm mags
or a belt of 60 rounds for the GMPG or LMG.

With the Omni pouch holding:

  • 8 x 30 round 5.56mm mags.
  • or a belt of 300 rounds of 7.62mm.

There’s also a large slip pocket behind each that can, amongst other things hold the issue 3 litre camelback.

Me, I have one side with all my basha kit in it, the Omni comfortably holds a DD Hammocks 3m x 3m Tarp. The other side holds a Snugpak Stratosphere.

The whole thing adds 5 litres per panel and is zipped on as per the issue jetpacks with the 15mm QR clips as back up. So they also fit the Herrick Patrol Pack.

Quoting the manufacturers blurb makes writing these reviews somewhat easier so here goes…

KS100e is a 1000 Denier Nylon fabric coated with a Silicone/PU elastomer for improved tear strength and flex resistance. Finished with a fluorocarbon durable water repellent (DWR) that improves the water resistance of the fabric.

In essence, it’s made from a thin but durable material with a water repellent coating.
Don’t be misled by the fact that they feel quite flimsy, that’s down to the 1000D Nylon used, it is a very robust material.

The QR buckles are all chunky proprietary side release with YKK zips for attaching to issue bergens, patrol packs, or whatever has compatible zips.

KSF’s warranty, straight from the horse’s mouth as it were…

Al Brooking over at KSF quoted me the following with regards to KSFs warranty;

All goods supplied by KSFG Ltd. are warranted for a 12-month period from delivery date.
In respect of Goods manufactured KSFG Ltd. shall free of charge within a period of 12 months from the date of delivery of the Goods (as appropriate) repair or at its option replace any Goods which are proved to the reasonable satisfaction of KSFG Ltd. to be defective in material or workmanship provided always that these obligations shall not apply where and to the extent that:
a) any defect in the Goods arises from any drawing, detail specification, design information or other information supplied by the Customer.
b) any defect in the Goods arises from fair wear and tear, wilful damage, negligence, abnormal working conditions, improper installation or connection, failure to follow KSFG Ltd.’s instructions, failure to observe any maintenance requirements, misuse or alteration or repair of the Goods without KSFG Ltd.’s approval, or
c) the Customer has failed to notify KSFG Ltd. of any defect or suspected defect within 21 days of the same coming to the knowledge of the Customer.

Any repaired or replacement Goods shall be warranted on these terms for the unexpired portion of the 12-month period.

Any claims from end customer should be handled through the retailer where the product was purchased.

Opinion…

They are fit for the purpose I bought them for, I now don’t have to root around in the dark and rain for stuff as it’s now all compartmentalised – organised.

A very handy non-permanent modification to patrol pack or bergen. Or, if you have zips fitted, to your yoke or armour.

In Summary

Overall these are a good piece of kit and will last, I do have one or two gripes about them though. As with all KarrimorSF stuff there’s a bloody great union flag embossed on the buckle surface. I personally think that KSF’s brand placement is almost as bad as when WebTex embroidered their name on everything. What’s wrong with the little label they also have that’s sewn into a seam? The lids have square edges, just an annoying feature, again my preference is to have the lids angled or chamfered.

Ratings

• Cost: ££££ – Mine cost me £38.00 each from my ‘go to’ shop
• Value for money 1-5: 4, expensive but good build quality and material spec, they are exactly what I wanted.
• Ease of use 1-5: 5, they attach using zips and QR buckles, individual pockets have QR buckle and Velcro with silencer strips. Great for keeping odds and sods organised.
• Construction 1-5: 5, solid throughout.
• Allyness 1-5: 3, Nothing to get too excited about but non-issue therefore different…
